Motivation- "I Can"

There are times when we are face with difficult task or situations and our first thought is " I can't".  "I can't" start a new career, "I can't" do this on my own, etc.  Yes, at times the light at the end of the tunnel is hidden from us because we haven't yet work out the road map to getting there.

"Limitations exist only because you let them" meaning if you put limits on what you can do, then you will never learn or experience your true potential.  To truly triumph over difficult situations or challenges you must have an open mind and a "I Can" mentality.  It doesn't matter if you fail on your first or hundredth try what matters is that you gave it your all every single time.

If you want something bad enough you will have to work hard and even suffer a little to achieve it. Do not make the mistake of not stepping out of your comfort zone because of fear, fear will have you staying in the same place for far too long.  Just know that a lot of good things that have happened in our lives are in some ways shape by difficult situations or times.

So everytime you push through a difficult time or difficult situation give yourself a high five or a pat on the back for a job well done. Just know that changing your tune from "I can't" into "I Can" will have you saying " I Did it".

Menu and Exercise recap (6/22)

My birthday was this past weekend and as I embark on this new year in my life I am happy to say that I am healthier than I was a year ago. My goal is to be even further along in my health journey come this time next year.  The birthday gift that I received that I like the most is my fitbit flex (thank you Honey).

I love all the features that it has to offer and will certainly do my best to use each one and my even over share with you how I'm using them.  So far I realized that I have very restless sleep pattern, which may explain my low energy come late afternoon.

Anyway all that is for a future post; here is a recap of this week's exercise and menu.

Exercise

Thursday- rest day with a much needed soak in the tub after work
Friday- One hour pilates followed by a three mile run on the treadmill.
Saturday- Two mile run in the park enjoy the sights, smell and sounds of the morning.
Sunday- rest

  • Lemon shrimp; my son had a ball with this
  • Grilled Salmon
  • Asparagus sauteed with onion and green pepper.

Wash Day- the humidity challenge

Fighting humidity and the ensuing frizz is my goal for this summer, because even though I like how big my hair gets I hate it looking unkept.  This wash day I focused on the moisture balance of my hair. One would think that at a week post relaxer I would have an issue with humidity but with mostly texlaxed hair the struggle is real.

Here is how my wash day went:

Prepoo - prepoo with Cantu shea butter leave in repair conditioner, avocado oil, coconut oil and grapeseed oil mix under a plastic cap for 30 minutes.  Thanks to a 80 plus degree day I did not have the need to use my conditioning cap.

Shampoo- After rinsing out the prepoo treatment I shampooed with Creme of Nature and aloe.  As usual I only lather once before rinsing with cool water. After a week of co-washing my scalp was in need of a good shampooing, I could feel my scalp cheering from being clean.

Deep Conditioner- Deep conditioned with a mix of Organix tea tree cholesterol treatment and Jamaican Black Castor Oil under a plastic cap for 45 minutes.  It was hot so I did not feel the need to put on a conditioning cap.  Well,  let me tell you it worked like nobodies business. Once my hair was cool I rinsed with warm water followed by cool water, then wrapped my head in a t-shirt to get rid of the excess water.

After my Deep conditioner

Leave-in and moisturizer-  I sprayed my hair with Creme of Nature strength and shine leave in conditioner before applying Ettenio Mangoshea daily moisturizer and OGX coconut milk anti-breakage serum.  I then roller set with roughly twenty 2 and 2 1/2 inch rollers and allowed to dry overnight.

In the morning after I remove the rollers I applied Ettenio seal and shine and style.  I left my house with beautiful touchable bouncy hair and came home with poofy hair with a little frizz.  I must say that even though the look change the moisture level remains the same.

My plan for the week is to co-wash ever two days to both maintain the moisture balance and also to contain the frizz.

I haven't done a exercise and menu recap in since the end of April, because I did lose track of my routine because I was not working.  Just know that I continued to exercise and did my best to eat healthy.  I am once again gainfully employed and have a daily routine; there is nothing like having a set time to have lunch.  Anyway, I am once again back on track and very happy about it.

Tuesday- Rest
Wednesday- one hour body pump; at the end of body pump I always feel like a superwoman

Friday- one hour Pilates and a 2 mile run
Saturday-  ran 3 miles at the park can't wait to get my fitbit
Sunday- Rest

I love how my body looks and feels and will continue to get it into the shape and strength I had in my early twenties.

Wash Day- Relaxer Touch up

At twelve weeks post and with my birthday looming I decided it was in the best interest of my hair to do a relaxer touch up.  While I enjoy my young male Lion look, I was not enjoying the co-wash sessions and the increased use of heat to manage my mane.

Here is how my relaxer touch up wash day went:

1-  Based my scalp and ends with Jamaican Black Castor Oil, then coat the ends with Cantu Shea Butter repair leave in conditioner.  I then added two tablespoon of olive oil to my Africa's Best relaxer in regular strength, before proceeding to applying the relaxer to my new growth.

2- After I was finished applying the relaxer I added ORS Aloe creamy shampoo to the ends and rinsed out the relaxer with warm water.  When I felt the relaxer was properly rinsed out I apply Aphogee 2 minutes reconstuctor and left on for five minutes.

3- I then rinsed out the protein treatment and shampooed three times with ORS Aloe creamy shampoo to ensure all the relaxer was properly washed out of my hair.

4-  T-shirt dry to get out the excess water, before deep conditioning with Organics Cholesterol tea tree oil conditioner and JBCO and covered with a plastic cap and top with a scarf for thirty minutes. Once my hair was cool I rinsed with warm water and finished off with cool water.

5-  I then wrapped my head in at-shirt for ten minutes before applying Aphogee Provitamin and allowed to air dry to about 90 percent, then apply Ettenio moisture reign and Ettenio Mangoshea and roller set with roughly 20 rollers and left to dry.

I am happy to say that all my texlaxed hair seems to be the same texture.  Gone are the days when I had to wait two weeks after a relaxer to have hair movement.  I did trim a little so I eventhough my hair is fuller I did not see noticeable difference in my length. However, I have gotten the "OMG your hair is growing" so my healthy shoulder length hair is getting compliments.

Hoping you gain some great information from my #washdayexperience.

Hatha Yoga

What is Hatha Yoga?

Hatha yoga is what we commonly called Yoga.  Hatha Yoga is believed to be developed in the 15th century India.  This form of yoga is as refer to as the Yoga of postures.  Hatha yoga is the branch of Yoga that unites the opposite pair of positive and negative.

Hatha Yoga uses various body positions to improve health and remove diseases in the physical, spiritual and mental body.  This form of yoga was meant for meditation and relaxation because of the length of time each position is held.  Control breathing is a very important facture of Hatha Yoga, which is meant to release the body's energy.  The regular practice of Hatha Yoga can aid in increases flexibility, bone strength, and even the development of concentration.

Why am I Practicing Hatha Yoga?

I was challenged my a friend at the gym to give Hatha Yoga a try after I mock that all they are going is taking a nap. Well, let me tell you, they are not.  It is really harder to look and feel relaxed when you are holding your body in an unnatural position. Even though I am a avid practitioner of pilates I am not flexible by no stretch of the imagination.

Hatha Yoga is suppose to challenge and sharpen your mental and physical potential, however I am finding that I either does not have any potential or just too little for it to emerge. Like really why do I want to be a tree, a mountain or a warrior?  I have done a few yoga moves in the past to recover after a workout but never anything like this.

I am not a quitter so my summer challenge is to continue with the practice so I can gain flexibility and strength. For me getting and staying healthy is trying new things and challenging oneself.  Yoga followers I am sorry for all the bad mouthing I have done in the past.

Wash Day- Co-Wash spiral

I've always loved my hair, even when I thought it cannot grow.  These days my hair and I have a serious love affair I may even ask it to marry me  (LOL).  Anyway, at eleven weeks post with mostly texlaxed hiar humidity has both been my enemy and my friend.  To combat the drying effects of this humid weather I have being co-washing my hair every two to three days.

My flexi-rods and perm rods are constant companions in this soap opera. I love how my root puff up at the end of the day and how the curls droop.  A few days I have blown out the roots and roller set just to look like  young male lion t the end of the day.

Here is a recap of how I have being co-washing my hair.

Prepoo-  Prepoo with warm coconut, avocado oil mix under my conditioning cap for fifteen to thirty minutes.  Once the hair is cool I rinse with warm warm.

Co-wash -Co-wash with just as I am coconut co-wash; I like this co-wash because it always leaves my hair feeling silky.  After ensuring that all my hair has been properly coated I rinsed with warm water to remove all the product.

Deep Condition-  Deep conditioned with ORS replenishing conditioner and JBCO mix under my conditioning cap for fifteen to thirty minutes.  I then allow my hair to cool before rinsing thoroughly with warm water followed by cool water, to close the cuticles. After all the conditioner is properly rinsed out I t-shirt dry until my hair is about 80 percent dry.

Leave-in and moisturizer-  I then apply Shea Moisture JBCO strengthen, grow and restore leave in conditioner and Cantu  shea butter coconut curling pudding before either setting with flexi rods or perm rods.

This cycle has really help me to maintain a really good moisture level.  What are some of the techniques you are using to maintain moisture during the warmer months?
