Today March 8th is International Women's Day 2015, this years slogan is "Make It Happen".
"The story of women's struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights" Gloria Steinem
Inequality affects women from different races, ethnicity, culture, religion and class. Since the early 1900's women have been fighting to get heard, fighting to be seen, and fighting for equality. So after more than a hundred years of feminism we now seen, and heard but still fighting for equality. Equal pay for equal work seems to be a hard concept in the very patriarchal society many of us lives in.
The black hair movement to me represents us as women standing up saying no more; no more will we listen to your opinion of us; no more will we let you tell us how we should define ourselves. We are now saying who we are, what we are and how we define ourselves.
So even though we may not think of ourselves as feminist, we should continue to work hard and fight so that our daughters will enjoy equality and recognition.
Happy International Women's Day to my follow feminist!
